The Interrogation Room

Navigating life is complicated enough - shopping with The Department shouldn't be. Here are the Inconvenient Truths and answers to your burning questions.

What is The Department?

The Department is a proudly South African lifestyle brand and culture division. We turn everyday local observations, road hazards, and political bureaucracy into high-contrast, satirical lifestyle statements and sustainable goods.

How do I pay for my order?

We keep transactions as straightforward as our design philosophy. We accept secure online payments via Payfast as well as direct EFT transfers. No funny business, just clean checkouts.

Where can I buy your products in person?

While we are expanding our footprint nationally, our physical range is currently exclusive to Urban Yuppi in Shelly Beach, KwaZulu-Natal. Otherwise, you can order directly through our online shop.

Do elderly people get a pensioners' discount?

No. Age does not excuse you from the regime. If anything, decades of accumulated life experience mean you should have known better than to buy satirical lifestyle goods from The Department on a whim. Respect your elders? Absolutely. Give them a discount? Best we can offer is a sympathetic nod and a free load-shedding candle while supplies last.

How does wholesale work?

If you want to stock The Department goods in your independent retail store, check out our Wholesale & Stockists page. We require a minimum opening order of R2,000, and you can email us to kick things off.

How long do orders take to ship?

Given that we operate under the daily circus of load-shedding, local red tape, and infrastructural surprises, our team works efficiently to get your items packed and dispatched as fast as humanly possible. Exact delivery times depend on your corner of the country.
